In the mid-sixties, there was competition
between the high performance Chevrolet dealerships Yenko, Dana, and
others to deliver -- and warranty as new -- high performance cars that
would be unbeatable on both track and street. The Baldwin
Chevrolet dealership partnered with a high performance shop called
Motion Performance to deliver some of the most radical cars of that
era.
Through horsepower modifications as well as special
graphics and body modifications, Joel Rosen of Motion
Performance would produce a new car tailored to each customer’s
specifications. The first question asked of the customer was how fast
do you want to go? The customer was then quoted a price and guaranteed
that the car would turn the E.T. (elapsed time in the quarter mile)
requested by the customer, or his money would be returned. If the
customer could not turn the E.T. as promised, Motion would send their
professional driver to attempt it. If the professional driver could
not turn the designated time promised, the purchase price would be
refunded. Remarkably, no refunds ever became necessary!
The Camaro featured here is an unrestored example with
28,000 miles. It was heavily optioned from the factory as a RS/SS
(X-22 style trim), Muncie 4-speed, 4.11 posi, power brakes, front disc
and rear drum, power steering, buckets, console with console 8-track,
AM radio, rear speakers, custom interior, tinted glass, wood grain
steering wheel, front spoiler, body color front rubber bumper, rear
bumper guards, D80 rear spoiler. Motion Performance added the reworked
427 complete with 950 CFM 3 barrel carb, headers, electronic ignition,
heat resistant plug wires, traction bars, hood tach, Stewart Warner
gauges, Hurst shifter, G70X14 tires, and 14” mag wheels.
The Daytona yellow color with black interior and the
added Baldwin Motion black center stripe results in a striking color
combination that is very eye-catching! This Camaro has been featured
in numerous magazine articles over the years as a prime example of
Motion Performances handiwork. Recently it is the car used for the new
die cast models just released by Supercar Collectibles.
