Berger Chevrolet was another high performance Chevrolet
dealership in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They were a lower profile high
performance dealership producing about 50 of these double COPO
Camaros. The 1969 Camaro is already recognized as one of the most
popular musclecars of all time. Berger Chevrolet's factory orders of
69 Camaro’s with two COPO resulted in a performance car of great
significance. The primary COPO 9561 was the high performance
cast iron 427 motor. The accompanying COPO 9737 was called the
sports car conversion package. COPO 9737 consisted of special
gauges, racing suspension, and bigger E70 X 15 tires mounted on
steel rally wheels.
The Camaro shown here was equipped from the factory with 427 COPO
9561, COPO 9737 sports car conversion, Turbo 400 automatic, 12-bolt
4.11 posi, dual chambered exhaust, power front disc brakes, E70x15
raised white letter tires, rally wheels, ZL2 air induction hood,
black buckets, AM/FM radio, console with console shift, 140 MPH
speedo, dash tach, center fuel gauge, style trim group, black vinyl
roof, special body color front bumper, front spoiler, rear spoiler,
and rear bumper guards.
The Berger logo emblem is attached on the rear tail pan and
states the words “by Berger” in script letters. On the air
cleaner lid is a decal stating Berger's slogan “Prescribed
Power”. Sounds just like what the doctor ordered to satisfy one's
need to go fast. The number of these produced was far less than
Yenko’s with very few surviving today.
