The 1966 427 Corvette with the M22 4 speed Transmission had a distinct and different engine suffix code. They were listed as Heavy Duty 427's. It was believed these were the predecessors to the infamous L88 motors but having cast iron heads instead of the aluminum L88 heads. A magazine article in 1966 speaks of tearing down one of these HD 427's, and finding very different internal components from the stock 427's.
This particular is one of the approximately 15 HD 427 M22, 36 gallon big tank, big brakes, radio/heater delete Vettes built. They were bult specifically to go to the track. This one was delivered to Switzerland, where it spent it's race career. Today it is restored to original factory configuration.
